Biography/Admin History: The S.S. "Eagle, " official number 118052, 677 gross tons, wooden vessel was built in 1902 in Sandefjord and rebuilt in St. John's, Newfoundland in 1908. It was owned by Bowring's Ltd., of Newfoundland, and was used as a sealing vessel and a coastal boat, before and after it was commissioned for the wartime voyage to establish British Sovereignty in the Falklands and Antarctica. It was sunk off Sugar Loaf, just outside the St. John's Narrows, July 23, 1950.
