Biography/Admin History:	Built in 1911 in Glasgow, Scotland by Charles Cornell & Sons, 3,449 gross tons, official number 131350. A sister ship to the S.S. "Florizel," the "Stephano" was operated by Bowring Bros. of Liverpool, England, carrying passengers and cargo between St. John's, Halifax and New York as one of the Red Cross Line. She took part in the seal hunt in 1912, 1913 and 1914 and under Capt. Abram Kean was involved in the "Newfoundland" disaster where many sealers were lost. On October 8, 1916, while carrying 94 passengers, she was sunk by German submarine U-53, five miles off Nantucket. There were no casualties.
