Biography/Admin History: The barque "Olinda," Official Number 27812, was built in 1859 at Greenock, Scotland. She was owned by Samuel Prowse, a mariner from Greenock, Scotland; William Tarbet, a merchant from Liverpool, England; and Henry Tarbet, a merchant from Liverpool, England. The "Olinda" was registered de novo in 1871, and ownership was transferred to Edwin Duder. When Duder's firm broke up, the "Olinda" was taken over by Baird and Gordon. In September of 1886, the "Olinda" was wrecked off Sable Island. The crew was saved and arrived at Halifax.
