Biography/Admin History: Captain Edward Pelham Brenton (1774-1839) was an officer of the British Royal Navy during the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars. He served as lieutenant in the North Sea and off Newfoundland from 1795 to 1802. Brenton became famous in the aftermath of the war, when he published the "Naval History of Great Britain from the Year 1783 to 1822" in 1823. He also demonstrated a talent for art, sketching and painting various pieces including a couple of St. John's, Newfoundland scenes.
