Biography/Admin History: "Novelty" - Schooner, built at Port Granville, Nova Scotia in 1910 for David Ritcey, 266 gross tons, official number 126811. Within a year the schooner was transferred to Barbados and was owned by A.S. Rendell and George M. Barr, merchants of St. John's, Newfoundland and was used in the Atlantic - European trade and also in the Brazil routes. Under the command of Captain George Winsor of Carbonear the vessel was abandoned in the Atlantic Ocean 200 miles north west of the Azores on February 11, 1916, after all the crew were safely removed.
