Biography/Admin History: S.S. "Meigle" was built at Lanark, Scotland in 1881, O.N. 85860, 836 gross tons, registered at St. John's, Newfoundland #5 in 1913, owned by Robert Reid. Went ashore near St. Shotts, Newfoundland on July 19, 1947 while enroute from Halifax to St. John's via Charlottetown, P.E.I. and St. Pierre and was listing 40 degrees when cargo of fluorspar shifted. Ordered abandoned by the Navy. Captain Kean returned and saved the vessel. One of the Alphabet Fleet.
