Physical Description: 1 photograph : col. ; 8 x 11.5 cm
Biography/Admin History: Marie (Smart) Penny (1897-1970) married George J. Penny in 1927. They has a daughter, Margaret, who later married Spencer Lake. After her husband's death in 1949, Marie took charge of the family business, John Penny and Sons, which had by then been converted to a frozen fish enterprise. In 1967 Mrs. Penny was elected president of the 400-member Fisheries Council of Canada, the first woman to hold the position. Marie Penny died in 1970.
