Biography/Admin History: Built in Scotland in 1908, 1132 gross tons, official number 127684, owned by the Bellaventure Steamship Co. Ltd., St. John's, Newfoundland in 1914. Used as a rescue ship during the 1914 Newfoundland sealing disaster. The disaster occurred between March 31 and April 2, 1914, when 132 crew members of the S.S. Newfoundland became stranded in a blizzard on the North Atlantic ice flows. Of the 132 stranded crew members, 77 died on the ice. The vessel's registry closed September 11, 1924.
