Clyde Lake, was born in Fortune, Newfoundland on September 30, 1919. He married Flora Elizabeth Robinson Chafe in 1950, and had three daughters together: Ronda Louise (Lake) Parker, Leslie Ann (Lake) Searle and Sarah Jane Elizabeth (Lake) Conklin. After service overseas in the Royal Artillery during World War II, he joined the family fish processing and exporting business. For several years he and his brother, Spencer Lake, ran the Lake Group of Companies, with Harold as executive vice-president. In 1980 he established Newfoundland Fisheries Ltd., dealing in fish, marine insurance, boats and chartering. He later retired from business, but retained ownership of the company.
