Physical Description: 1 photograph : sepia toned ; 8 x 11.5 cm
Biography/Admin History: The U.S.A.T. "Edmund B. Alexander" arrived at St. John's on January 29, 1941 with the first American troops to occupy wartime Newfoundland. Accommodations were not yet available at Pepperrell Air Force Base (it was still under construction) so personnel remained onboard until May 1941 when a temporary camp, named "Camp Alexander", was erected.
Custodial History: This photograph was collected by John Cardoulis from J. Luby of Longlac, Ontario. Mr. Cardoulis later donated it to the Maritime History Archive in 1997 as part of the John Cardoulis Photograph Collection.
