Graduate Studies and Work Possibilities

Our major program in Russian Language and Literature has prepared our students for various career paths. Here are a few examples of where our students are now:

Memorial Graduates working in Russia

Serious students have applied their knowledge of Russian to various careers.

For those who wish to live in Russia or abroad, several of our students have found opportunities to teach English as a second language in Russia with international language schools, such as Berlitz, Language Link, Educacentre in St. Petersburg.

One student worked as a journalist in Russia, others for international companies with offices in Russia and Europe.

Work in Canada

There are more and more interesting opportunities to obtain employment in Canada, if you have a knowledge of Russian.

Some have become teachers, other graduates have found employment with ministries in the federal government, the military, the Canadian Coast Guard, ship-chandlers, translation agencies, private businesses with interests or projects in Russia.

Graduate Studies

Many of our students have continued with graduate studies and successfully completed M.A. degrees in Russian Studies, Russian language and literature, education, translation, journalism, library science, business administration, medicine, law at various universities in Canada and England.

The Gorbachev Foundation was awarded funding from the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) and Canadian and Russian post-secondary academic institutions. Youth Internship Programs employ interns for three month periods in Canada and then a three month placement in Russia.
