Ceramic
The ceramic artifact assemblage for House 3 was composed of five different ceramic types, Normandy coarse stoneware, coarse earthenware, Ligurian-style, tin-glazed earthenware and refined earthenware, which totaled 81 pieces. Although these ceramic types have wide date ranges, they point towards a mid-18th century occupation. All recovered ceramics were hollowware vessel forms, with the exception of one Ligurian-style flatware, indicating that the occupants of House 3 were cooking traditional liquid-based meals intended for communal consumption. It appears that the occupants used European ceramics as a direct substitute for traditional cooking vessels. |
