Arrive a few days before classes begin: You may want to do some siteseeing but this may add additional expenses, ie: temporary housing and food. Arriving early is totally at the discretion of the student.

Book your flight as early as possible: Choose your ideal travel dates by booking your flight now. Flights fill up quickly just before the beginning of each semester.

Immigration Process: it may take at least 2 (two) hours at the Port of Entry (POE) at the first Canadian airport you enter (for example, Toronto Pearson Airport). If your POE is St. John's however, this process will most likely be faster.

Check the location of your campus: Make sure your flight takes you to the correct campus. We have campuses in three cities: 1) St. John's, Newfoundland, 2) Corner Brook, Newfoundland and 3) Harlow, England.

If you are studying in St. John's book your flight to Airport Code YYT:

    • Another city in Canada has a similar name: St. John, New Brunswick. This city is over 1700 kilometres away from Memorial University.

Late Arrivals: We recommend arriving before classes are scheduled to begin, however if you are arriving late, notify your instructors or your supervisor (if you have one).

Undergraduate students: If you need to request to defer your applicaton to a future semester you may request a deferral by contacting this email. If you need to request a new letter from Memorial regarding the fact you will be late email this office

Graduate students: contact the School of Graduate Studies with all requests.

Should new students require some guidance and to be greeted by a friendly airport greeter please follow the below steps to make the request. English as a Second Language (ESL) students will have to email and provide their arrival details, along with their travel itinerary since they are not able to set up their My MUN accounts until they arrive at Memorial University and register with the ESL Office.

Please note this is a free service for new international students. If you have technical issues you may want to try using a browser such as Google Chrome or FireFox when making your request.

  1. Set up your My MUN Account
  2. When you are logged in to your My Mun Account, request an Airport Greeter service here

*Remember to bring enough Canadian money to pay for your taxi fare from the airport to your first night of accommodations.

*There is no currency exchange kiosk at the St. John's International Airport (YYT).
