Arrive a few days before classes begin. You may want to get yourself settled in as well as going sightseeing around St. John's prior classes begin. Here are a few attractions around the vicinity (this may add additional expenses, i.e. temporary housing, transportation, and food. Arriving early is totally at the discretion of the student). Also, check out the City of St. John's interactive map here to find and access existing programs and services around the city.

Immigration Process: it may take at least 2 (two) hours at the Port of Entry (POE) at the first Canadian airport you enter (for example, Toronto Pearson Airport). If your POE is St. John's however, this process will most likely be faster.

Check the location of your campus: Make sure your flight takes you to the correct campus. We have 3 campuses, three different cities: 1) St. John's, Newfoundland, 2) Corner Brook, Newfoundland and 3) Harlow, England.

If you are studying in St. John's book your flight to Airport Code YYT:

    • Another city in Canada has a similar name: St. John, New Brunswick. This city is over 1700 kilometres from Memorial University.

Late Arrivals: We recommend arriving before classes are scheduled to begin, however if you are arriving late, notify your instructors or your supervisor (if you have one).

Undergraduate students: If you need to request to defer your applicaton to a future semester, you must first drop any registered courses and then contact the Admissions Office. In your request to defer email, include your full name, student number, and an explanation of your extenuating circumstance.
The deadline for application deferrals is the first day of classes each semester.

Graduate students: contact the School of Graduate Studies with all requests.
