Self-Isolation Supports
Self-Isolation Requirements
Who Needs to Self-Isolate
If you are arriving from outside of Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), you are required to self-isolate for a minimum of 14 days upon arrival to the province. This reflects the recent announcement (November 23rd) that the province of Newfoundland and Labrador is leaving the "Atlantic Bubble" requiring travellers from Nova Scotia, PEI, and New Brunswick to self-isolate upon entry.
This is mandated by NL's Public Health officials. For the most up-to-date information on COVID-19 in the province, please refer to the Government's wesbite.
Mandatory Check-Ins
As part of your self-isolation, when you arrive in the province, the Internationalization Office’s team of Peer Supporters will set up a time to conduct a daily virtual check-in with you.
Participation in these daily check-ins is a mandatory aspect of your self-isolation, and required by Memorial University, the Provincial Government, and the Federal Government. You will receive more information regarding these check-ins by email shortly before you arrive in Newfoundland. These calls are conducted via WebEx (over the internet) and can be taken on your smartphone, computer, or tablet. Alternatively, they can happen by telephone if you prefer. All calls must be voice calls and emails cannot be a substitute.
Self-Isolation Supports
Our Peer Supporters will connect with you to see how you are doing, whether you have questions/concerns, and convey any important updates relevant to you while self-isolating. In addition, they will provide valuable information about programs and services available to help you make the most of your time at Memorial.
Memorial’s Student Wellness and Counselling Centre is open, and staff are providing services to students via telephone and virtual sessions. Non-urgent counselling, physician and nurse appointments can be made by contacting the centre.
