Michael Robert Shute

Dr. Michael Shute of the Faculty of Religious Studies passed away in Halifax on January 3, 2020. Dr. Shute spent 31 years as a faculty member at Memorial University, until his retirement in September 2019 after a diagnosis of ALS. 

Dr. Shute greatly enjoyed teaching and was known professionally for his work on Canadian philosopher and theologian Bernard Lonergan. In his spare time, he loved music and playing his harmonica. At his request, no memorial service will be held and a private interment will occur at a later date.

Dr. Shute is survived by Joyce West, his wife of 39 years, as well as by three brothers and a sister. The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences passes on its condolences for their loss to Michael's family, friends and colleagues.
