Health Improvement Program (HIP)

Winter 2022

Dates:  Monday, Feb. 14 - Friday, May 6, 2022

Duration: 12 weeks

Online classes: three recorded on-line classes per week: one strength; one high intensity interval training (HIIT); one Yoga. Weekly, new classes will be recorded and distributed via email. Dedicated HIP classes are on-line only.  Participants who opt for option A or B (see below) will have access to all other in-person fitness classes.

*New*  Bi-weekly 15 minute coffee chats with Ken and Kat! Starting on Wednesday, Feb. 23 at 11 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. Registration will be required.  The topic will be included in the weekly motivational email along with registration details.

Deadline to apply: employees and retirees can join at anytime; however, we do encourage participants to join early for maximum benefit.

How to apply: email kwall@mun.ca and include the following information: name, department, employee number and The Works membership type you have or plan on getting.

As this program is a partnership with The Works and is using the expertise of personal trainers, membership options A, B and C require a membership with The Works. Benefits eligible employees can avail themselves of the preferred rate program (PRP). If you haven't already, please complete the PRP form and submit it to Ken Forward via email.

Membership Options:

OPTION A
Participants must sign up for the Deluxe Membership at The Works. PRP eligible employees cost is $17.60 bi-weekly HST included.

What you will get:

• Access to three recorded online fitness classes per week (Strength, HIIT and yoga).
• Full access to The Works facilities including all in-person fitness classes. Questions about membership access can be directed to Ken Forward.
• Fitness assessment conducted by a personal trainer.
• A free one-hour personal trainer session (can be broken down into two 30-minute sessions) (value of $42 + HST). Must be used during the duration of the program (before May 6, 2022). Not transferrable to another individual.
• Support and motivation: email support to respond to individual questions and weekly motivational emails.

OPTION B

Participants must sign up for the Prime Time Basic Membership (PTB) at The Works or the Field House Combo (FHC). PTB cost for PRP eligible employees is $12.43 bi-weekly HST included. FHC cost for PRP eligible employees is $13 bi-weekly HST included.

What you will get:

Access to three recorded online fitness classes per week (Strength, HIIT and yoga).
• Fitness assessment criteria provided so participants can do their own initial, mid-way and final assessment.
• PTB membership gives you access to the Aquarena Fitness Centre. FHC membership gives you access to the Field House facilities including in-person fitness classes. Questions about membership access can be directed to Ken Forward.
• Support and motivation: email support to respond to individual questions and weekly motivational emails.

OPTION C (Online only)
Participants must sign up for the online membership at The Works. PRP eligible employees cost is $6.90 bi-weekly HST included.

What you will get:
• Access to three recorded online fitness classes per week (Strength, HIIT and yoga).
• Fitness assessment criteria provided so participants can do their own initial, mid-way and final assessment.
• Support and motivation: email support to respond to individual questions and weekly motivational emails.

OPTION D - No membership required

What you will get:
• Fitness assessment criteria provided so participants can do their own initial, mid-way and final assessment.
• Weekly motivational emails.
• Accountability: check-ins from program administrator.

**Personal Trainers
Trainers will keep a physical distance and wear a mask.
