NURSING LABORATORY INSTRUCTOR (BAND LEVEL 9)
Faculty of Nursing
 (Contractual position to April 9, 2021)


DUTIES
The successful applicant will be responsible for instructing and assisting nursing students in practical techniques in laboratory courses for the Bachelor of Nursing (Collaborative) program.  Duties include working with the course instructor to design, prepare and teach labs; researching current evidence based trends in clinical practice to modify lab topics and supplies as needed; collaborating with faculty and other lab instructors on content and teaching strategies including simulation and operating simulation equipment; preparing teaching aids; facilitating student learning during lab sessions using a participatory/collaborative approach; evaluating student performance; assisting with mask-fit testing; assisting students outside of formal laboratory periods and providing remedial help; supervising classroom course exams and other evaluations; ensuring smooth implementation of the lab schedule and performing other related duties as required.  Some evening and weekend hours may be required depending on lab scheduling and to allow students to practice in the lab.  

QUALIFICATIONS
Experience (3-5 years) in nursing, including experience in acute care and community settings; graduation with an undergraduate degree in nursing, supplemented by a Master’s Degree (preferably in nursing); or any equivalent combination of experience and training.   Possession of a Certificate of Registration from the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador is required. Current proficiency in nursing skills and interest/ability in helping students learn clinical skills is required as well as strong computer, oral and written communication skills.  Experience in a teaching environment would be considered an asset. Candidates are required to have considerable knowledge in the areas of instruction, assessment, and supporting student learning, as well as the ability to operate and maintain laboratory settings. Must be able to work independently as well as within a team setting, be an effective problem solver and be able to guide and provide effective feedback to students.

 SALARY                        $64,996 - $72,090 per annum (CUPE Local 1615)
                                       An upscale hiring will apply to this position (Step 24)
