The Office of the Chief Risk Officer is celebrating and promoting Safety and Health week happening May 1-6, 2023. This is an ideal time for faculty, staff and students to focus on the importance of preventing injury and illness in the workplace, at home, and in the community. Starting on May 1, you're invited to join our activities to celebrate Safety and Health Week.

On July 1, 2015, WorkplaceNL introduced new guidelines that required Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committees, Worker Health and Safety (WHS) Representatives and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Designates to re-certify every three years.

The Office of the Chief Risk Officer has developed a pan-university Hearing Conservation Program. This document will provide guidance for those at the University who are potentially exposed to high noise levels.

Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls at Memorial

In 2017, slips, trips, and falls (STF) accounted for 41 per cent of all reported incidents through Memorial’s reporting channels like MUN Safe app and MIMS.

THe Office of the Chief Risk Officer and Facilities Management has developed a university-wide Contractor Safety Management procedure. This document will provide guidance for contractor safety management at the university. The proposed draft procedure is currently available for consultation.

Members of theuniversity community are invited to review the procedure. Feedback is welcome and may be directed to Environmental Health and Safety (health.safety@mun.ca) until Nov.1.

The Office of the Chief Risk Officer has developed a university-wide Health and Safety Management System manual. This document will provide guidance for environmental health and safety at the University. The proposed draft manual is currently available for consultation. Members of the University community are invited to review the draft manual here .

Health and safety officials at Memorial University lifted the drinking water restrictions that were implemented on the St. John’s campus this summer.
