Title of Project

How can local and traditional knowledge (LTK) and western science be effectively mobilized to aid community sea-ice decision-making in Pond Inlet, Nunavut.

Research Project Description

The purpose of this research is to better understand the barriers and successes of mobilizing LTK and to develop and evaluate a conceptual framework to help northern and scientific communities better collect and integrate LTK into research and monitoring programs.

Research Interests

• Integrating LTK of sea ice with western science
• Community based monitoring of sea ice
• Space based earth observation systems to monitor sea ice from above
• Oceanographic observation systems to monitor sea ice from underneath
