We live in a multicultural society and an age of globalization, and it has become increasingly important to develop cultural awareness and competence. This course provides a practical introduction to cross-cultural communication. General theories and concepts of cross-communication will be introduced, combined with specific examples of cultural information and situations. Participants will have the opportunity to examine their cultural background and its impact on their communication styles and personal lives. Finally, through activities and case studies, participants will have the opportunity to apply concepts and ideas. 

Key Learning Outcomes

  • Identify the principles that underlie cross-cultural communication.
  • Assess what affects one's cultural perceptions and learn to reduce culturally limiting thinking, like unconscious bias and cultural un-safety.
  • Use both verbal and nonverbal communication more effectively and reduce instances of miscommunication.
