Skills Development Curriculum

The Skills Development Curriculum, created by FUSION, consists of an interactive and engaging 10-hour online, self-study curriculum that is designed to wraparound and complement an existing learning opportunity.

The curriculum focuses on enhancing participants' skills across three critical 21st century domains:

  • Metacognition: The ability of the mind to plan, monitor and assess its own learning and performance.
  • Communication: The ability to construct and convey a message through an appropriate medium.
  • Problem solving: The ability to connect various analytical strategies to come up with creative solutions to manage difficult situations.

Particpation Benefits

In addition to learning new skills, participants that complete the FUSION Skills Development Curriculum will learn to:

  • Articulate their skills in ways that demonstrate how they can contribute to a positive academic and workplace culture.
  • Incorporate communication, problem-solving and metacognition as highlighted skills on their resumes.
  • Maximize their skill sets by taking risks, getting feedback and continuing to focus on their skill development.

What past participants have to say about their FUSION experience:

"I think it's really beneficial for students to get FUSION, especially in their early years of university. Because it's going to carry over. Those are skills that can help in school, and also in life in general." (2020 MUCEP Student)

"When I was doing this program alongside my MUCEP work, I applied a lot of the modules to my research work in particular, but I also found myself applying these modules to other things in my life." (2020 MUCEP Student)

"I wish this was done earlier. I'm in my third year now and this would have been helpful in my previous years, to use these skills." (2020 MUCEP Student)

"I also applied FUSION to my other job as a server. So, I did apply my communication skills there. I also learned in the problem-solving module that there are different problem-solving methods that you can use to approach a problem, and then I started using that at the restaurant as well." (2020 MUCEP Student)
