MacEdward Leach and the Songs of Atlantic Canada

Alexander March of Port au Port

Alexander N. March (1863/65 - 1952/3) was the father of at least ten children. The 1904 McAlpine Directory for the Bay St. Georges District lists his occupation as fisherman. From him, Leach collected a variety of songs, including "The Flying Cloud," "Morrissey and the Russian Sailor," "Morrissey and the Black," "Glen Gyle," "City of Boston," "Paddy Backwards," "South Carolina State," and "Butter and Cheese."

His name has been listed erroneously as "Marsh" in most historical references to the Leach collection.
