ESL Fees, Withdrawals, Refunds, and Deferrals Policies

Students enrolled in the ESL Intensive English Program and Intensive Bridge Program need to pay the following fees:

Application Fee

Intensive English Program (Levels 1-6) and Intensive Bridge Program (Level 7)

Application Fee (non-refundable) $150


The application fee is to be paid via Global Pay (at the same time as the submission of the web application form or pdf application form).

Please note: all fees are subject to change.

a The ESL deposit is due a month before the first day of classes to hold your place in the program. The ESL deposit is only refundable in the event of a study permit refusal. Proof of study permit refusal needs to be submitted to the ESL Financial Officer.
b The Recreation Fee ($62.16) is suspended for Spring 2020 and Fall 2020 due to COVID-19.
c Students can purchase their textbooks from the MUN Bookstore. Textbooks are not covered under the cost of tuition.


Withdrawals from the ESL Programs

Students can withdraw from the Intensive English Program and Intensive Bridge Program by submitting the ESL Withdrawal Form to esl@mun.ca

Please note:

  • A withdrawal is not official until the English as a Second Language Programs administrative staff has received official notification and certified the changes.

  • Ceasing to attend classes, or informing an instructor of the intent to withdraw, does not constitute an official withdrawal.

Deadlines for Payments and Refunds
  • If you withdraw less than one month before the program start date, you will receive a full reversal of fees (minus the $600 deposit).
  • If you drop within the first two weeks of the program start date, you will receive a 75% reversal of your tuition (minus the $600 deposit).
  • If you drop after the first two weeks of the program start date, you will not be eligible for a reversal of fees.

All refunds are the responsibility of the Cashier's Office. The Cashier's Office will respond to your questions regarding your refund. Click here to get in contact with the Cashier's Office. If you are required to pay a deposit towards your first year of tuition for your visa application, you must include your full tuition and other mandatory fees in your estimate. Fees may change without notice.


Deferrals

Applications to the ESL Programs may be deferred to the following semester, one time only, but at the discretion of the English as a Second Language Programs. We may offer to defer an application in circumstances where an application error was made or when it is considered in the best interest of the applicant.

To request an application deferral, you must contact the English as a Second Language Programs (esl@mun.ca). The deadline for application deferrals is the first day of classes each semester. In your request to defer email, include:

  1. your full name;
  2. your student number;
  3. an explanation of your extenuating circumstance.
