Water quality and resource development is becoming an increasingly important field of study for earth scientists, as a consequence of global warming and population growth. Hydrogeologists study the occurrence, distribution, and movement of water, particularly groundwater through fractured rocks and aquifers. Biogeochemists are concerned with the interactions of organisms with water, particularly in surface reservoirs.
