Meng Zhu

Advisory-Board-Member-Meng-ZhuMeng Zhu came to Canada to pursue a bachelor's degree at Memorial University in 2004 as an international student and successfully completed her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 2007.

During the three years studying at Memorial, she worked part-time at the Internationalization Office, and discovered people from different countries loved the shoes she brought back from China. As there were limited sources to meet people’s shoe purchasing requirements in the local community, she decided to start her own business after graduating. In 2008, Meng established You You Shoes, which is located in downtown St. John’s and has brought a lot of unique leather products with reasonable price to the local community. In 2018, she started another retail business called Ethno House (renamed to Fur Culture in 2020) with a partner who is in the sealskin products market. Fur Culture has been supporting local sealskin craft makers and artists while carrying unique seal fur and seal leather products made of Newfoundland sealskin and Inuit sealskin. In March 2021, she is currently a Finance Analyst at Energy Research and Innovation NL (former Petroleum Research NL) while pursuing her MBA degree at MUN.

Meng has also been volunteering for the MUN Chinese Youth Association as a co-leader of the Family program, organizing and supporting activities for Chinese students, alumni, and their families, especially children.
