heterozygous genotype
Let allele A have a frequency at time t
= 0 of either fA =
0.65 or fA = 0.70.
With the alternative fitness notation, WAA
= 0.9, WAa = 0.8,
and Waa = 1.0, the
heterozygote is at a disadvantage with respect to
either homozygote The alternative initial values of fA
occur on either side of an unstable
equilibrium. If the initial fA
exceeds that value, it will be fixed, if below it
will be lost.
Homework: From the
fitness values given and using the same calculation for
heterozygote advantage [NS_07-Box6], calculate
the initial equilibrium f(A)0.
