Leucine Zipper

Leucine Zipper DNA binding motif

The Leucine Zipper or is a nucleic-acid binding dimer of two Leu-rich (red residues) alpha helices running in opposite NC directions. The "scissor" end binds a major & minor groove of the DNA: the "zipper" end can un-zip and bind with other regulatory enzymes.
