Clinal geographic variation on B allele of ABO blood group system in humans

Frequency of the B allele varies from effectively zero in Basque populations of northern Spain and southern France to ~0.30 in Eastern European and Asian populations. The gradient (cline) across Europe may reflect historical patterns of invasion from the east superimposed on a reduction of the European population to the Iberian peninsula during the last Ice Age.
