Conformational changes of enzymes during catalysis
In the
uninduced form of the enzyme,
the three crucial amino acid residues in the active
site are relatively far apart [left]. When enzymatic
activity is induced by the binding of a
substrate [right], the
active site residues
shift closer to each other in the enzyme-substrate complex, as
predicted
by the induced-fit model.
