A rectangular perspecive on Equid evolution

Transitions between species are shown as sharp rectangular turns, implying a punctualionist origin. The lineage leading to modern Equus is rotated so as to rise directly upwards. Other lineages are shown to the right, and the labels are given more or less equal emphasis. The eye will still tend to see the increase in size from Hyracotherium to Equus as a linear trend.
