Post-Chernobyl environmental contamination levels

Approximately 5,000,000 live in areas of Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia that are classified as 'contaminated'... (> 37 kBq m² of ¹³⁷Cs). This includes about 400,000 people near Chernobyl who live in areas contaminated to the extent of >555 kBq m² of ¹³⁷Cs. Of this population, 116,000 people were evacuated in the spring and summer of 1986 from the Exclusion Zone surrounding the Chernobyl power plant. Another 220,000 people were relocated in subsequent years.
