Ronald A Fisher (1890 - 1962)

Ronald Fisher was a prominent statistician and geneticist. Two key works are his "Statistical Methods for Research Workers", which provided tables of values useful in calculation of statistical probabilities, calculated essentially by hand from first principles. His "Genetical Theory of Natural Selection" showed that Mendelian particulate genetics was entirely compatible with slow and gradual evolution, by means of substitution of one allele at a gene locus for another.
