Regulation of cell survival and development by CD24

Regulating the size and function of many organs requires a balance a cellular development, proliferation and death. Some organs retain the capacity for rapid and extensive expansion even during adulthood, including adipose tissue, and immune tissue. In contrast, during the process of tumourigenesis cells lose their ability to properly regulate their prolifearation, death and developmental stage. CD24 is involved in the regulation of the survival of many different cell types. My lab is interested in understanding how CD24 contributes to regulating the survival and differentiation of adipocytes, immune cells and cancer cells
