Field School

The Department will be offering two field schools during the Summer 2022, one on Saint-Pierre et Miquelon, the other on Lake Melville in Labrador.


MUN Archaeology Field School: 'Excavating the Pebble', Anse à Bertrand, Saint-Pierre et Miquelon

The field school will take place in Anse à Bertrand, Saint-Pierre et Miquelon from June 27th to August 5th, 2022.

During that time 4 weeks will be spent in Saint-Pierre et Miquelon.  Participants will take part in archaeological activities in the classroom, field, and lab, including archaeological excavation and artifact analysis. University students will receive credit for two courses at Memorial University: ARCH 3585 and ARCH 3586. ARCH 2583 taught during the intersession (May 9th to June 17th is a prerequisite).

Participants in the Field school will develop skills valuable to the practice of archaeology, in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences through the study of place and heritage.

Ten spots available. All participants must meet NL COVID-19 Public Health Guidelines.

Labrador Campus Archaeology Summer School: Upper Lake Melville, Labrador

The field school will take place in Upper Lake Melville, Labrador from July 4th to August 5th, 2022. Participants will take part in archaeological and cultural resources management activities in the classroom, field, and lab, including archaeological excavation and artifact analysis. University students will receive credit for two courses at Memorial University: ARCH 2480 and ARCH 2583.

Participants in the Summer school will develop skills valuable in the humanities, sciences, and social sciences through the study of place and heritage.

Ten spots available. All participants must meet NL COVID-19 Public Health Guidelines.
