Anthony Payne, B.Mus.(Hons.)'13, B.Sc.'14
Anthony attended Memorial University from 2009-2014. He completed undergraduate degrees in both music and statistics, receiving the University Medal for Academic Excellence for each degree. While studying at Memorial, he undertook research in statistics and genetics that led to two publications in academic journals while also enjoying part-time work as a ramp agent at St. John’s International Airport. As a Newfoundland Rhodes Scholar, he is completing his D.Phil. in Clinical Medicine at the University of Oxford, researching genetic factors influencing type 2 diabetes. He has also passed the Society of Actuaries’ Exam P and is currently preparing to write his second exam.
Anthony has just come to the end of two consecutive years as Vice President of the graduate community at St John’s College in Oxford, during which time he was also a Junior Member of the College’s Governing Body and several of its contributing committees. He has been a choral scholar at St John’s College for more than two years, and actively participates in various musical activities. Once he has completed his studies at Oxford, Anthony intends to return to Canada.
