When scoping out the numerous student jobs available on campus, being a Student Caller is by far the best! If you are energetic, enthusiastic, and a great communicator; enjoy working as part of a team to reach strategic goals and meet expectations; have excellent people skills, including the ability to listen and resolve concerns; like meeting new friends; need a flexible schedule that accommodates your student life; and want to win prizes and other incentives for doing great work, then this is the job for you!
As part of the Memorial Calling Program team, you will have the opportunity to reach out to Memorial's alumni and friends by phone. We keep the Memorial family connected, share the latest news about life on our campuses, information about upcoming events and reunions, and ask our alumni and friends to support current students with a charitable donation. The funds we raise benefit the students at Memorial University every day.
Reporting to the Co-ordinator, Annual Giving and Student Team Leaders, the successful applicants will be responsible for calling alumni to ask for charitable donations for student support. Duties include working with a team of callers to achieve the call centre’s daily, weekly, and monthly goals; acting as an ambassador for Memorial University; building rapport with Memorial’s alumni; conveying the goals of the calling program to alumni and friends; developing techniques to handle objections and improve the structure and style of the calls; entering alumni information, accurately and confidentially, in our database; and other related duties as required.
We are looking for dependable students who are currently enrolled with Memorial University. Qualifications include excellent communication and negotiation skills; a strong command of the English language, both written and oral; exceptional attention for detail; and being comfortable talking to people on the phone in a call centre. Adherence to Memorial policies on student employment is required. Experience working in a call centre or in a fundraising setting would be considered an asset.
Benefits include paid training; a fun team environment; a goal oriented position; individual and team incentives; an on-campus location; a flexible schedule; an opportunity to build valuable skills for your resume; an opportunity to meet new people; and the opportunity to network with alumni and truly make a difference for current students.
Each team member is required to work two shifts per week within the following time frame:
• Sunday: 4-7 p.m.
• Monday - Thursday: 6-9 p.m.
As per the university policy on Student Employment Rates, Student Callers earn $13.80 per hour plus incentives offered by the Office of Development.
