Bob Cole

Born in St. John's, Robert Cecil Cole began his illustrious broadcasting career with VOCM before moving to CBC Radio and Television. His career took a turn that would change his life when he began covering hockey for the CBC national network in 1969.

Among his many notable accomplishments are calling the famous 1972 Canada-Russia Summit Series on radio, covering the Summer Olympics in 1984, and the Winter Olympics in 1998 and again in 2002 when he called Canada's gold medal hockey triumph.

Mr. Cole was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1996 and has been honoured with the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award for excellence in hockey broadcasting.

This October begins his 30th season with Hockey Night in Canada on the CBC-TV network.

Mr. Cole received a honorary doctor of laws degree in the 10 a.m. session of convocation.
