The Writing Centre is a free, appointment-based facility for all Memorial University students who want help with their writing. Staffed by a director and university students trained as writing tutors, its mandate is to help students become better writers and critical thinkers.
An increasing number of graduate students are making use of the centre--some to refresh themselves on mechanics and elements of style they have not used for a while, others to obtain guidance and feedback on papers and articles they are preparing, and still others to work on portions of their theses. The centre also assists graduate students with paper/project proposals, application letters, personal statements and extrance-exam preparation.
To make an appointment, please use the contact information provided below. Please note, however, that we do NOT provide an editing service. We strive, rather, to help you develop strategies with which you yourself can improve your writing. Please note, further, that we generally give only one appointment per week to graduate-level students
We can also create and deliver workshops for graduate students, if they or their instructors request them. Several such workshops have already been presented on topics such as ways to simplify convoluted prose and things to keep in mind when preparing articles for publication. Such presentations can be arranged by contacting the Writing Centre director.
The Writing Centre is located in the Science Building, Room 2053. For information on current hours or other concerns, please drop in, call the centre at 864-3168, or email its director, Ginny Ryan, at firstname.lastname@example.orgSee our Employment Opportunities page for graduate positions offered through the Writing Centre.
