Provost releases Internationalization White Paper for Memorial University
Sandy Woolfrey-Fahey

Today, Dr. Wardlaw, Provost and Vice-President (Academic) is releasing the Internationalization White Paper for Memorial University which assesses internationalization at Memorial.

At the July 16, 2013 meeting of the Vice-Presidents Council (VPC), approval was given to commence the development of an international strategy for Memorial. The first phase of the process commenced late last summer with the creation of a working group to prepare the white paper.

The small working group with representation from each campus, assisted by a consultant, conducted consultations with faculty, staff and students on all four campuses, reviewed existing Memorial documents concerning internationalization, and carried out a literature review and an environmental scan.  All of this then informed the writing of the white paper.

The Internationalization White Paper for Memorial University was formally received by VPC in January 2014. The white paper provides background, context, and recommendations for next steps for the creation of a pan-university internationalization strategy, which will guide Memorial’s planning in various spheres of international activity.

The Vice-Presidents Council is currently inviting feedback on the paper which will be collated and along with the white paper will inform the development of the international strategic plan, a process anticipated to begin near the end of the winter semester 2014.
