Memorial University enrolment figures for fall 2015

The fall 2015 semester at Memorial University is in full swing and enrolment figures are in. There are 18,413 students enrolled at Memorial’s campuses. Graduate enrolment continues to increase and undergraduate enrolment has remained steady as expected.
There are 12,161 undergraduate students enrolled at Memorial’s St. John’s campus for fall 2015, representing a negligible 0.4 per cent decrease over the previous year. Grenfell Campus enrolment has decreased by 1.4 per cent over last year, with a total of 1,025 students studying in Corner Brook this fall. Marine Institute’s overall enrolment sits at 1,069 students, which is a decrease of 5.4 per cent over the previous year.

Graduate student enrolment has increased once again this year, with a total of 3,689 graduate students choosing to study at Memorial, an increase of 2.6 per cent over the previous year. Graduate enrolment at Grenfell Campus increased 36.7 per cent from 2014 to 2015, while graduate enrolment at the St. John’s campus increased 2.4 per cent over the previous year. Marine Institute graduate enrolment saw a minor decrease of 0.66 per cent. Course registrations at the graduate level have also increased overall by 5.4 percent this year.

“I am pleased to see the continued increase in enrolment at the graduate level across our campuses, and I am confident that through our enrolment planning process we will further enhance our ability to recruit and retain both undergraduate and graduate students in all our programs, while focusing on improving the quality of the student experience at Memorial,” said Dr. Noreen Golfman, provost and vice-president (academic) of Memorial University.

As part of its enrolment planning process, in 2014 Memorial projected that undergraduate enrolment would remain stable over the next few years and graduate enrolment would continue to rise. It is anticipated that demand for graduate programs at Memorial will continue to increase, and this growth will be supported by Memorial’s Enrolment Plan 2020, the Strategic Internationalization Plan 2020, the Strategic Research Intensity Plan 2020 and the university’s three frameworks.

The enrolment data included above was generated on Sept. 23, the last date to add undergraduate courses. There are currently more than 100 graduate and undergraduate degree options at Memorial. Information about all programs can be found here.
