When it comes to showing my pride, I suppose you could say I'm somewhat of a novice. I've only been "out" for about two years now; which isn't long comparatively speaking. When I think of all the LBGT individuals who have been " out for years", I think its fair to say I haven't had nearly as much exposure to heterosexism as they have. Nonetheless I felt like I desperately needed to celebrate gay pride this year. I desperately needed to be amongst people who accepted me, while at the same time acknowledging my sexuality. I think I got what I was looking for this year at pride. I felt like I was part of a community.
The events themselves all had a fair turn out, though the gay pride march had fewer participants than last year (most likely attributed to the cold weather). There were a wide variety of participants at the majority of events; people of all ages and from all walks of life. From movie to bowling nights, to coffee socials, drag races and fashion shows, this years pride had something for everyone. Additionally, everyone seemed to have a mutual respect for one another, which is something often lacking in today's world from my perspective.
Special congratulations go to the editor of THE, Leslie Bella, who received a reward marking her substantial contributions to the LBGT Community.
Special thanks go to all the organizers and volunteers who organized and ran this years events.
