Safe Cyber Dating Tips

By Linda Alexander, Cyber Sleuth

We've all seen warnings on various talk shows & news programs about the dangers of forming relationships via the Internet. And, like relationships in life, the dangers of getting something more than what you bargained for (or less) are real. These were tips that we recommended to our ex-Forum members that some of you may find useful for online cruising.

1. ALWAYS ask for a FULL NAME, ADDRESS and TELEPHONE NUMBER before agreeing to go out with someone you have never met.

2. NEVER go out with someone who will only give you their PAGER or WORK NUMBER. (There may be a significant other in the house)

3. When someone gives you their phone number, find a reason to call UNEXPECTEDLY. (Find out if she/he is already involved or living with someone).

4. Try to find out the person's DATE OF BIRTH. You can obtain this information by first asking the person's age, birth sign and then the actual date. This is important information if you want a PERSONAL PROFILE and BACKGROUND CHECK

5. ALWAYS tell SOMEONE where you are going with your date.

6. ALWAYS leave the FULL NAME and any TELEPHONE NUMBERS of your date with someone.

7. ALWAYS meet in a PUBLIC PLACE that you are familiar with on your first date.

8. ALWAYS DRIVE YOUR OWN VEHICLE and DO NOT INVITE THEM BACK TO YOUR HOUSE AFTER THE FIRST DATE!!!
