The Memorial University of Newfoundland Sustainability Declaration was drafted by the university’s Advisory Committee on Sustainability. This overarching declaration is intended to define MUN's commitment to sustainable principles. Consultations with the university community were held throughout the summer and the document has been approved by the university’s governing bodies.
The declaration was celebrated at an official signing event on October 6, 2009 to which the entire university community was invited. Sustainability Day was held on the third floor of the University Centre from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There were displays on sustainability projects at Memorial and ways to learn what you can do on campus and at home to reduce energy use and your impact on the environment. There were prize draws throughout the day. At 1 p.m., there was a media event with Dr. Loomis, president pro tempore, and other guests.
