Event: The CAHPERD Student Leadership Conference
Organization: Human Kinetics and Recreation Society
Event Date: September 29- October 3, 2004
3 students from MUN’s Human Kinetics and Recreation Society participated in the Canadian Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance’s first Student Leadership Conference. The three students who participated in the conference, which was held at the scenic Tim Horton’s Onondaga Farms in Cambridge, Ontario, were Justin Black, Erica Pritchett and Melanie Haire. 58 Canadian and 12 American students were brought together, along with the association’s staff, leaders, mentors and guests, to participate in the 4-day long conference which was comprised of leadership seminars, physical activities, information sessions and group challenges. At this conference all three students had fulfilling experiences which contributed to their desire, motivation and passion for their fields of study. Indeed, these students had the opportunity to be challenged on a personal level. They acquired leadership, communication, volunteerism and inclusion skills which enhanced their level of leadership to help motivate others, particularly here at MUN.
