The History Society’s first
ever Awards Dinner was a wonderful success. Twenty-two students,
alumni, and faculty received awards, including two scholarship
winners who shared a total of $750.00 offered by the Society. The
scholarship is offered annually and is funded entirely by the
Society's own fundraising efforts throughout the year. In
attendance were forty-three students, professors, and
The remainder of the awards were certificates of appreciation for society members who were active in the 2004-2005 academic year. In addition, the society named its first four alumni, including graduates and faculty within the department. With addresses from three past presidents, this was an opportunity for the Society to celebrate its past, to recognize those who have invested countless volunteer hours in the building up of the society, and to present a vision for the future.
Aside from the distribution of awards, this event also helped to fulfill the society's mandate of encouraging communication and cooperation between the society, the department, the faculty, and the university administration.
The Society received countless complimentary emails from attendees, including one administrator who commented that it was "inspiring" to be in the presence of such an energetic and dedicated group of people.
