MUN Catholic Community
Event: Atlantic Canadian Catholic Student's Association
Organization: MUN Catholic Community
Student: Joanne Healey
Event Date: October 14-16, 2005
The conference was amazing fun and
very informative. The event took place in the beautiful Mariachi,
NB. It was held by St. Thomas University and there were people
present from universities throughout the Atlantic Provinces, and
the University of Toronto. The event was one of three conferences
taking place across Canada and the conferences are united by the
Canadian Catholic Student’s Association. It is a globally
recognized group that works as a network to keep Catholic students
connected and present on campus throughout Canada.
The Université de Moncton was present and therefore it became a bilingual conference. The next conference in 2006 will be completely bilingual and held by L’Université de Moncton. The conference was orientated towards developing campus connections so that together each group may be more influential and supportive to Catholic students on campus. There were guest speakers and talks detailing the work that CCSA is doing across Canada, with the UN, and the outreach programs which they perform in several countries.
Besides strengthening individual faith and meeting amazing people from several provinces and taking part in fun outdoor activities like rock climbing and canoing, the conference also provided a lot of information to bring back to MUN. Joanne brought back helpful binders of tips, methods and workshop ideas to keep the MUN Catholic Community alive. Subscriptions to catholic newspapers and magazines were also given, but most invaluable is the network that now inter-connects campus’s and keeps Memorial informed of events. Because the conference was held on the mainland and thus incurs cost, it was unfortunate that MUN could only send one representative, as the other universities each had between four and 12 people representing them.
