1. What is Winter Orientation?
Winter Orientation is a one-day event designed to help new students become familiar with their campus. It's a fun, interactive and informative event which strives to help students meet new people, find out about Memorial's many services and moreover get engaged in Memorial's community.
2. Who is it for?
Winter Orientation is for any student attending their first semester at Memorial's St. John's campus in January 2014.
3. When is Orientation?
Orientation takes place on Sunday, January 5th, 2014.
4. How do I register for Orientation?
Students need to register for Orientation through their Memorial Serlf-Service account. Students may register for Orientation at the same time as they register for Winter 2014 courses. For a step-by-step guide on how to register, please visit the Office of the Registrar's webpage!
5. What should I bring with me to Orientation?
High energy and comfortable clothes are the most important things to bring! For a complete list of what to bring, please visit our What to Bring webpage!
6. What events are offered at Orientation?
During Winter Orientation, there are many events that take place! These events are designed to help you get prepared for your first day of classes. Check back later for a complete schedule of what will happen!
7. How do I know where to go?
Winter Orientation will start in the University Centre, however you'll be moving all over campus! After meeting up here, we'll show you around! Signs will be posted on the day of Winter Orientation to ensure you know where you're going!
8. I live in residence; can I still join in orientation activities?
9. Is attendance mandatory?
Attendance is not mandatory however you are strongly encouraged to attend Winter Orientation in order to form connections and take advantage of the many services that are offered to you during these two days.
10. If I have to leave for a part of Orientation am I allowed to return?
Yes! Chat to one of the volunteers to make sure that you know where the group is when you come back. As well, keep a schedule with you!
11. Is there a cost?
No! Winter Orientation is free for all new students.
12. Can I pay my tuition during Winter Orientation?
Winter Orientation takes place on a Sunday, meaning that you will be unable to pay your fees as the cashier's office will be closed. However, the next day (the first day of classes), the cashier's office will be open, so you will be able to pay your fees! During your campus tour, volunteers can show you where the cashier's office is! Additonally, fees can be paid via online banking. 13. Can I get my MUN student ID at Winter Orientation?
Yes! You will have an opportunity to get your campus card during Winter Orientation. However, you can also drop into Answers from 8:30 am - 4:45 pm before or after Winter Orientation, and you can also pre-order your card through your self-service. You can pre-order your campus card by visiting the campus card webpage.
14. Do I have to be 19 years or older to attend any Winter Orientation events?
No. Winter Orientation at Memorial is open to all new students.
15. Is parking free during Winter Orientation?
There is free parking available in Lots 16 and 16A during Winter Orientation. You can find a campus map indicating the location of the lots here.
16. Can parents attend Orientation?
Unfortunately, we do not currently offer a Parent Orientation during Winter Orientation! However, there is a Family Guide posted on the Orientation webpage that offers some information for parents on what to expect when their student attends university for the first time!
17. Who organizes Winter Orientation?
Winter Orientation is a program designed and delivered by Answers, a division of Student Affairs and Services for any student attending their first term at Memorial. The Winter Orientation team is comprised of student staff, volunteers, and staff members.
18. What if I have more questions?

19. I had a great time at Winter Orientation, how can I stay involved with Memorial's Leadership Programs?
Leadership Programs provide many more programs besides Winter Orientation. You can become involved in a wide range of leadership opportunities, such as LEAP!, Fall Orientation, or MSLC. For more information on Leadership Programs, visit the Leadership Programs webpage or Facebook page.
