Dr. Hardy Cox has a B.S.W. (Memorial University), M.S.W. (Social Policy and Administration, Carleton University), Ed.D (Education Administration/Leadership, Student Personnel/ Development, Counseling Services in Higher Education, University of Maine), and a Certificate in University Management, (Centre for Higher Education Research & Development, University of Manitoba). She is currently dean of the School of Social Work, Memorial University, and holds a faculty appointment as professor, School of Social Work, Memorial University.
Dr. Hardy Cox’s social work practice background includes 15 years of service in policy and program development, and the administration of student development programs (wellness, spirituality, career, outcomes research, voluntarism/service learning, disability, aboriginal, orientation, leadership). She was president of the national Student Affairs and Services Association, Atlantic Association of College and University Student Services, and president of the Canadian Association of College and University Student Services from which she was awarded the highest honour given to a member, the Award of Honour, for her leadership to student affairs and services in Canada. She was Honorary Research Associate, School of Graduate Studies, University of New Brunswick. She has held visiting scholar positions, most recently at the School of Social Work, University of Toronto. She was also a Professional Affiliate - Centre for Higher Education Research and Development, University of Manitoba, and the founding Director of its Canadian Institute on Student Affairs and Services. Dr. Hardy Cox was the inaugural associate dean, Graduate Studies and Scholarship, for Memorial's School of Social Work.
Dr. Hardy Cox’s research focusses on social work education, interprofessional education, service delivery systems in higher education, and community capacity building, with an emphasis on youth. She brings over two decades of experience designing and delivering social work, higher education and professional development curriculum in online, distance, and face-to-face and blended classrooms. Her teaching focus has included administration of human services, evaluation and policy in social work and higher education, introductory social work and social work education.
As a committed volunteer, Dr. Hardy Cox has served in both member and leadership roles on a variety of boards and she has played an active role in a range of community organizations including United Way of Canada, Habitat for Humanity, Canadian Federation of Students, Community Services Council, and Girl Guides of Canada (locally and nationally).
