About Us

Welcome to the School of Social Work!

School of Social Work

As Newfoundland and Labrador’s only provider of social work education, Memorial University’s School of Social Work prepares professionals to make contributions in our province, as well as nationally and internationally.

The Memorial University School of Social Work Bachelor of Social Work and Master of Social Work programs are accredited by the Canadian Association of Social Work Education – Association Canadienne pour la Formation en Travail Social (CASWE-ACFTS). Accreditation applies to both distance and in-class programs.

Our undergraduate degree offerings include two Bachelor of Social Work programs – one as a first degree and one as a second degree. At the graduate level, our Master of Social Work program is primarily online, with a focus on creative approaches to critical thinking for leadership in diverse social work practice. Both thesis and course route options are available.

Our PhD program is research-based, and focuses on advanced social work practice and social work education, emphasizing commitment to people and social justice, stressing critical thinking and the production of original and significant scholarship.

The core of our mission is to meet the needs of the province and contribute to the body of knowledge of the profession nationally and internationally.
