Mummers Festival

Work Experience in Social Enterprise –
Part-time opportunity for MUN student

Organization: Mummers Festival

Organization Information
The Mummers Festival is a participant-focused, not-for-profit, community-based folklife festival that encourages the celebration, free expression, and reinvention of traditional arts, performance, and craft.

The Mummers Festival coordinates a series of free public events every December (workshops, lectures, school programming, and forums) that lead up to our crowning participatory events: the Mummers Parade, Rig Up, and Mummers Scuff ‘n’ Scoff. The Mummers Festival was developed using a folklife festival model that attempts to achieve the goals of cultural understanding and cultural transmission as encouraged by UNESCO’s policies on intangible cultural heritage. At the heart of the Mummers Festival is the aspiration to represent, celebrate, and inspire the transmission of collective cultural knowledge.

The primary goal of the Mummers Festival is to promote the continuance and evolution of traditional arts and performance by encouraging active participation in mummering activities. All events are designed to equip the public with skills and knowledge about mummering so that they can better participate in our parade day events and, it is hoped, the house-visiting traditions that occur during the twelve days of Christmas. The Mummers Festival is currently expanding to seek out and develop new revenue generating initiatives and partnerships to support its mandate.

Job Description – Social Enterprise Development Assistant
